The Angel Wings...

I had to add this picture because this is what we looked for as we ran. When we saw these wings (my van had them too - this is Van #1 -- read next post for info), we knew that salvation was near and our running sisters (like wonderful Lisa and Jeni pictured here) were close by with water and encouragement. It really was the best!! I love these wings and am sad that they no longer grace my van. And I love everything that they represented...GO ASPHALT ANGELS!

The Ragnar --Go Asphalt Angels!

THE ASPHALT ANGELS!

Fly Asphalt Angels Fly!

Yes I did it. I ran 16.5 miles in 3 different legs staying up 24 hours without sleep then sleeping a total of 2 hours before I had to run again. I threw up 4 times between legs 1 and 2, sat in my smelly van with 5 other awesome runners, ate nothing but sweet and salty bars, yucky pasta, bananas and water, watched my friends suffer as much as I was suffering and YESI am still alive. It was one of the hardest things I have EVER done physically if not the hardest. I am actually looking FORWARD to running a half marathon in August now...no joke!

My team’s name was the Asphalt Angels. We had two vans of six women who ran 181 miles from Logan to Park City in 32 hours and 31 minutes. I was in Van #2. Our van consisted of my friends Shelli (the CAPITAN), Kristen, and Dixie (from my ward) as well as my new friends, Shelli's sisters Kami and Andrea. Being with these amazing women and cheering them on while being cheered on by them was the definite HIGHLIGHT of the experience.

Here are some photos...

Van 1 in blue and Van 2 in pink. (We wore pink to start and blue to finish).

Me at the start of my third leg...6 miles in the blaring heat up and down lots of hills! Yuck!

The SUPPORT! At each mile interval (or in this case UP a DIRT ROAD in the HEAT, every 1/2 mile), we would jump out of the van to cheer on the current runner and give them water. We figured out that we ran up and down 3 whole mountains... yikes!

THE FINISH! When the last runner came in, we joined her at 200 yards out and all ran in together. What a thrill!! We actually did it!

Of course I could NEVER have done it without the support of my wonderful team especially the capitans Shelli and Lisa who organized the whole thing, got the t-shirts and van decor, and told us exactly what to do and where to go...THANK YOU! Also, I am so grateful for an incredibly supportive husband who not only helped me to train for this thing but also watched all the kids during the run and AFTER during my recovery so that I could reach this milestone. Next year, I am doing it with HIM! I can't wait. Or maybe I can...I do need a year to recover!!!

Scream & Shout -- School is OUT!

Why what to do??
Well have a 5th Grade end of year GIRLIE party of course
--
that started at 3:30 pm and ENDED at 11pm -- all planned by Bailey!!!

And then...get some short do's...

But NOT mohawks!!!

John did Jackson's hair and then I did John's. It was so bad that he had to go to a salon to get it fixed. He tried to himself but he could not reach behind his neck where I messed up the line! Where is Salon de Shi when you need it???

And THEN of course we must have the end-of-year DANCE/GYMNASTICS recital...

Yes that is Cameron doing her back handspring. What great form!

And yes there is walking the neighbor's dog, "Jack", yummy barbecue corn on the cob and the obligatory cut on the head (Morgan's head that is) that we heal ourselves with super glue!

YEE HAW! The FUN's BEGUN!
